O.K….Let’s Get Started!
How To Build A Business WordPress Website Step-By-Step
“I will give a brief overview and then an ACTION STEP for you to follow.”
1) Set Up Your Domain Name & Hosting –
You want your website to be built on a strong foundation. Having your own hosting puts the control of your website in your hands and not some other business.
There are many free website building sites online that will allow you to establish your website using their software and hosting. Don’t be enticed by their offer, because you’ll eventually need to pay more fees as your business continues to grow.
Also, having a hosting plan for your website will help to present your business as a serious player in your industry. And it’ll pay off in the long run.
Your domain name is your “Home Address” online. It is most important as you’ll use your domain name on all of your marketing & advertising materials.
It will save you a ton of headaches to get your domain name and hosting with the same company, instead of separating the two.
I have built multiple WordPress websites and with all of them, I’ve used Godaddy.com.
Godaddy is the world’s #1 domain registrar and a solid company to host your business website with.
Additionally, Godaddy has a first-rate, award-winning, customer service team that is of supreme value when you need direct assistance.
The first thing you’ll want to do is choose a WordPress hosting plan that best fits your business.
If you plan to regularly add new images, videos, articles and other content to your website, then you’re going to want to start with at least 15GB of storage with 100,000 monthly visitors.
As of today that package is named The Deluxe package and offers many other benefits that will help improve your visibility in the search engines.
Godaddy normally runs a special discount for purchasing an annual hosting plan, take it! Hosting month-to-month will save you the hassle of having to renew every month and you’ll save a lot more money.
If by chance, Godaddy automatically sets your hosting term for 36months or more, don’t worry, this can be changed at check out. But I do again recommend a year at least.
Select your package and you’ll also be asked if you’d like to secure your site with malware scan and removal services, again take it.
I’ve had personal experience with being hacked and if I would’ve taken this precaution it could’ve saved me big time.
Because WordPress websites are so popular they, unfortunately, attract hordes of hackers who have mastered the techniques of cracking through them.
Don’t be a victim, invest in your site’s security.
After you’ve built your hosting plan with security, you’ll be asked to create a domain name.
Use Godaddy’s search tool to find your perfect domain name.
Once you’ve selected your domain and added to your cart, Godaddy will ask if you’d like to take advantage of other services they offer. Feel free to pick the services that interest you.
Some of the services may be preselected for you, so if you’re not interested, you’ll need to deselect the options you don’t want.
After you made your selections, go ahead and purchase your domain name. At this point, you’ll need to create an account where your domain name can be accessed and managed.
CONGRATULATIONS! Your WordPress website is setup or in the process of being set up by Godaddy.
Godaddy will send you detailed updates about your website’s progress to your email account. So keep an eye open for any further instruction or confirmation.
2) Accessing Your Business Website’s WordPress Admin Panel –
The administrative panel of your WordPress website is where you’ll spend most of your time.
It’s the place where you can design, create pages, add posts, install themes, add-on plugins, and more.
ACTION STEP #2: Access your WordPress admin panel by replacing (domainname.com) with your domain name into the following URL address: domainname.com/wp-admin.
A password protected login should load. Enter your Username or Email & Password to continue to your website’s dashboard.
The intention of this article was to show how to build a business WordPress website, not go into detail on how to use the WordPress dashboard.
However, knowing how to manage your new website is a MUST so you don’t have to waste money and time by paying an outside agency thousands of dollars to do it for you.

This is the fun part! Choosing a custom theme for your WordPress website.
You are now plugged into one of the largest online communities in the world… WordPress!
You have access to an endless variety of tools, theme designs, plugins and other software applications that have already been created for your use.
A theme is a predesigned template that you can install into your website and have an INSTANT web design.
One of the top and my favorite, designers of WordPress themes is ThemeForest.
For less than $100 you can purchase a professionally designed theme that will make your website look like you spent a fortune in developing it.
ThemeForest has themes for just about every industry you could imagine. Have a clothing store, auto repair shop, grooming business, a restaurant, etc. They have you covered.
4) Installing Your New Custom Theme –
GREAT! You’ve picked your new ThemeForest / Envato theme for your WordPress website. Now it’s time to install it.
Envato, the company behind ThemeForest, has already written simple step-by-step instructions on installing their themes, so there’s no need to reinvent the wheel here.
ACTION STEP #4: Click here to get detailed installation instructions.
You will find that they’ve provided instructions for multiple situations. You’ll want to scroll down to “Option 3: Install (and update) your theme with the Envato Market Plugin”
Follow their instructions thoroughly and you’ll have totally completed setting up your business WordPress website!
Finally, you’ll need to add text, business information, images, so on and so forth to your site to make it 100% yours.
For more advanced information on managing your blog, I again recommend that you join WP101 and take advantage of their training program.
